About Our Programs

Activity days are single day events that provide an opportunity for children to connect, improve mental health literacy, develop help-seeking behaviours, and provide a fun day out for some much needed respite. Activities can include ice skating, laser tag, bowling, movies, putt putt golf, and beach activities just to name a few! Activity days may be held on week days or weekends.

Camps are multi-day programs that provide an opportunity for connection, growth, and empowerment. Young people learn about mental illness and help-seeking behaviours, develop coping skills and resilience, build peer connection, participate in recreational and connection activities such as canoeing, archery, giant swings, go-karts and much more! Our camps run from approximately 4.00pm Friday to 4.00pm Sunday.

Connect sessions are “hosted” by Kookaburra Kids staff and volunteers online and are designed to be a fun, safe area where young people can express themselves in a supportive environment. Our connect sessions are interactive and follow a similar format as our activity days and camps; incorporating fun with mental health education.

Our camps and day activities are held in various locations across Australia, throughout the year.

The Opportunity

Empower young people to thrive through meaningful and fun work to make a positive impact in your community. As a Regional Lead you will engage with communities and the mental health sector in your region to promote awareness of and engagement with AKKF and our programs. Then, using your regional knowledge and community connections, you will be instrumental in helping to drive engagement and deliver empowering, educational, and fun youth programs in your community through the coordination of our Programs in your region. You will have hands-on involvement in developing programs for your communities and shaping the lives of young people. Your 'region' will be Sydney and Hunter Valley. You will get the opportunity to build relationships and programs across the region, helping your community to thrive. We are a remote organisation, which means all your "office" work can be done from the comfort of home, giving you flexibility and saving on the commute!

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively engage with the community and the mental health sector within your region, to promote awareness and engagement with AKKF, including attending events.

• Proactively identify, engage with, and coordinate sources of young people within your region eligible to participate in AKKF programs

• Coordinate and plan the delivery of face-to-face youth programs, including Camps, Activity Days, and online Connect programs.

• Coordinate program resource requirements including program materials, people, travel and accommodation, and administration.

• Coordinate with suppliers to seek favourable commercial terms for the delivery of programs.

• Source, recruit, and engage volunteers to support AKKF program delivery.

• Ensure the Work Health and Safety requirements of our programs are met.

• Facilitate engaging, inclusive, and safe program experiences aligned with AKKF’s values and policies.

• Build healthy and professional relationships with partners, coworkers, volunteers, families and young people.

• Regularly participate in programs and events (both face-to-face and online).
